I make art to make sense of the world around me, to navigate and process, to remember and investigate. My traditional painting work is based in photography, which I view as a sort of time loop- painting as a way of extending time and existing longer in a brief moment.

My work is in dialogue with European and American painting history- the romantic painting tradition of the late 19th century- people like Thomas Cole, Bierstadt and Church and their connection to the spiritual in nature. I think about their connection to the New England painters Homer, Wyeth and Hopper- artists whose work lives, for me, in this liminal space between reality, memories, and dreams.
